Djevelkult Interview

1.Can you give us an update on what has been going on with the band since the recording of the new album?

Currently we are finishing up in studio for a split. We've also been planning and preparing a minitour through Czech with one stop in Poland.

We had a couple of gigs in the winter, one with Sarkom and another in Oslo with Blodhemn.

2.You have a new album coming out in May, how would you describe the musical sound that is presented on the recording and also how does it differ from the stuff you have released in the past?

The musical sound on "Når Avgrunnen Åpnes" is more raw in its way, with a more necotic atmosphere around it. The riffing and composition of the music is much the same as on ''I Djevelens Tegn''.

3.What are some of the lyrical topics and subjects the band explores with the newer music?

War, Death, Darkness, Blasphemy. The vision and black metal are and will always be about the darker side of life.

4.You have also written lyrics in both Norwegian and English, how would you compare the two different languages?

Norwegian is more personal, and easier to reach a deeper writting without it seeming to cliche or too similar like other bands lyrics. But with english you have another feeling around the lyrics again, so thats why I use both. Gives me the most posibilities of both languages.

5.Originally you were known as 'Skadefyrd' what was the cause of the name change and also what is the meaning and inspiration behind the name 'Djevelkult'?

Skadefryd, meaning ''Malice; the enjoyment of the suffering of man'' was a very misantrophic name in it self, the very reason why i started of with it. It stands for the whole philosophy behind the band; pure hatred for mankind.

But in norwegian it might sound a bit "punk-ish" the name of it, and since Djevelkult arent related to punk in any way i felt it wasnt all corect to go under that banner.

I was looking for a name more related to satanism and the name Djevelkult came up as the perfect name.

6.What are some of the best shows that the band has played over the years and also how would you describe your stage performance?

Our performance is very direct and aggressive, which fit the music well. It's been a few gigs over the years, but maybe Hammmerslag and Under the Black Sun was the strongest ones.

7.Do you have any touring or show plans once the new album is released?

We will do a 4 days tour together with Naurrakar in Czech Republic and Poland in the start of june, and hopefully be able to do more tourings and festival throught 2018/19.

8.The new album is coming out on 'Saturnal Records; how would you compare working with this label to your previous label 'Morbid Shrine Records'?

Both has been professional and doing their best for us. However, it seems Saturnal would be the next step in the right way.

9.Can you tell us a little bit more about the artwork that is presented on the new album?

The artwork turned out extremely well through the artist Jose Gabriel Sabogal. It represent the chaos on earth, as the abyss opens and men is enslaved by the beast.

10.On a worldwide level how has the feedback been to your music by fans of black metal?

All of our gigs has been in Europe, so most of the feedback comes from here. We've also had comments from Asia and South-America which has been good.

11.What is going on with some of the other bands or musical projects these days that some of the band members are a part of?
Other bands that members of Djevelkult participate in are also having things happening.

Blodhemn is finishing their third full length album, with effort it will be released within 2018 if a suitable label should be interesting in releasing it.

Liktjern and Hovmod are close with their full length releases as well.

Likvann is a steady lair that always have something brewing up in the bunker.

12.Where do you see your music heading into musically during the future?

With same course as always, Djevelkult delivers the devil’s message and the message will always be preached in the way of black metal.

13.What are some of the bands or musical styles that have had an influence on your newer music and also what are you listening to nowadays?

The latest albums of the bands Dødsengel, Sjodogg, Deathcult, Svart Lotus, Taake, Svarttjern, Ad Hominem to name a few.

14.How would you describe your satanic, Luciferian or occult views?

Sort of a mix of them all, since our vision is something of our own making.
