Distorted Cognitions/Reduction/2011 CD Review

Distorted Cognitons  are  a  band  from  South  Carolina  that  plays  a  very  drone  sounding  form  of  depressive  black/doom  metal  and  this  is  a  review  of  their  self  released  2012  album  "Reduction".

Drum programming  are  all  slow  beats, while  the  synths  bring  a  very  dark  ambient  drone  sound  to the recording,  as  for  the  bass  playing  it  has  a  very  dark  tone  with  riffs  that  follow  the  riffing  that  are  coming  out  of  the  guitars.

Rhythm  guitars  are  all  slow  riffs  that  combine  depressive  black  metal,  doom  and  drone  together  to  create  a  sound  of   their  own  with  some  raw  and  primitive  elements  and  there  are  no  guitar  solos  or  leads  present  on this  recording.

Vocals  are  all  high  pitched  depressive  black  metal  screams,  while  the  song  themes  cover  philosophical,  esoteric  and  metaphysical  subjects,  as  for  the  production  it  has  a  very  dark  raw  and  primitive  sound  to  it  with  some  of  the  songs  being  long  and  epic  in  length.

In  my  opinion  Distorted  Cognitions  are  a  very  great  sounding  hybrid  of  depressive  black  metal,  doom  and  drone  and  if  you  are  a  fan  of  this  musical  genre,  you  should  check  out  this  band.  RECOMMENDED  TRACKS  INCLUDE  "Empiricist  Criterion"  "Truth  And  Utility"  "Mechanism  Of  Gaia"  and  "Eternity  Opens  As  In  Ancient  Times".  RECOMMENDED  BUY.
